Key terms: contemporary art and visual culture; quality; relevance; criticality.
Content of Circa
The magazine must be relevant; it must be the first source for information / views / debates / undertanding in relation to contemporary art in Ireland.
It should be the ‘journal of record’ for contemporary art in Ireland.
The magazine should track popular visual culture as well.
It should have a critical stance towards contemporary art and visual culture, in the sense of seeking to understand its context, origins and meanings.
The magazine should be seen from abroad as both (1) and (2).
Its reputation should be based on the quality of the product: high-quality writing, presentation and ideas.
The magazine should be fair and open.
It should be willing to take new initiatives, eg in terms of projects, collaborations, etc.
Into the future, the magazine should be:
bigger – more pages, more reviews, etc.
better at tracking new talent, new ideas, anything that is emerging and important

None of the points listed in the 'Vision for Circa' are
particularly groundbreaking - the magazine should be
capable of achieving the goals laid out above (although the
bigger/glossier stage might take a little more funding).
As someone who has lived outside of Ireland for several
years, I would really like to see some improvement on the
current website - the idea of having pdf versions of old
issues is a great starting point, but what about a
searchable database or articles etc? Circa isn't widely
available outside of the UK and Ireland, and a well
designed website would go a long way to helping with aim
2.5.
Overall the website could do with a change - the listings
could do with a new layout/some font changes, and the news
and comments could be more clearly linked to create
something much more user friendly (a point which has
already been made in one of the comments).
