Circa postcard competition

Deadline 7 August

Competition now closed! You can see the entries here.

Win-win opportunity for an artist in conjunction with Circa

Here’s a chance to get an image of yours onto 30,000 postcards, and be paid 150 euro for your efforts.  The postcards will be distributed through an extensive network in Dublin called The Picture Works – that’s at 195 venues throughout Dublin city and county.

What do we want? An image that will make people pick up the postcard.  The image doesn’t have to be new; it just has to be yours and it has to work.

We will take care of the back of the postcard, which will consist of information about Circa. The back will also carry your name, title of the work, and contact information if desired.

And even if you don’t win, you don’t lose: we will post all entries received (max three entries per artist) onto our website – if you’d like us to.

The technical stuff:

  • Deadline for submissions: 7 August, 5pm; submissions by e-mail only to postcard@recirca.com
  • Winner announced: 17 August
  • Dimensions of the postcard: 148.5 mm x 105mm (portrait or landscape)
  • Print bleed: add 3mm  (that is [a] if your image is to go right to the edge of the postcard, it should ‘bleed’ over it by 3mm, to allow for imprecision in the chopping of the cards; [b] if your image is not to bleed, it should stay at least 3mm from the edge of the postcard; [c] you should avoid having a border around your image, as the chopping of the card may make it unbalanced).
  • Paper: 300 gsm one-sided artboard
  • Finish: UV Gloss varnish
  • File formats: high-res jpeg or tiff only; RGB or CMYK
  • Website: unless you indicate otherwise, we will post your entry / entries onto our website, win or not
  • You retain copyright and ownership of the image; you just give us permission to use it in this one instance
  • We print the card (not you!); paper and finish specs are just FYI.
  • We need your name and e-mail address. You may also supply: (a) titles for each image; (b) year, media and dimensions for each image; (c) a website address where more of your work may be found.

Responses so far
Comment 1 If we win the postcard competition, does that mean that you
own the winning image?
Comment 2 No - you retain the copyright and ownership; please see
copyright statement added above.
Comment 3 Just making sure; I just e-mail an image, then if its
selected, I then transfer it to 300 gsm one-sided
artboard?
Comment 4 It all seemed so simple when we set out the rules... No, we
do the postcard printing, etc - we just need an appropriate
image from you. Specs amended (again) above. Thanks!
Comment 5 Do you want images RGB or CMYK, or either?

RGB is easier though for me so............
Comment 6 Is there a form to fill out and send with the images?

Where is it?
Comment 7 • RGB or CMYK - either is good

• No form - just e-mail us the images with your name; you
can include titles, year, media and dimensions for the
images; you can also include your e-mail address and
website address if you like

• info updated above
Comment 8 i thought it was reasonably simple - can people not read?
lol

when will the images be shown on your site?
Comment 9 We should have the first crop online within the next few
days. Apologies for the delay - there has been quite a
response.
Comment 10 "...portrait, landscape" you wish. What kind of medium
please: painting, drawing, photography? Thanks! ...a
photographer from Germany
Comment 11 Medium is irrelevant: we just want an image of the work,
whatever medium the work happens to be made in.
Comment 12 is there only one entrant per artist? or can you submit a
few images?
Comment 13 i just asked if artists could send more than one work,
clearly i can't read. as i have just seen that there is a
max entry of 3, apologies for clear stupidity! (or eye
sight problems!lol)
Comment 14 at this moment I read the questions and comments.

Was easier than I did it!

I sent you a postcard disegned....and was only to send you
images of artwork. Anyway the two images of art work are in
high resolution 300dpi

M.P.
Comment 15 Are the entries available for viewing yet? I can't find the
link.
Comment 16 Our apologies. Almost 400 people sent in work, a lot more
than we had anticipated. We hope to have images online
tomorrow.
Comment 17 tomorrow... you must mean... yesterday!!!

I m joking! Mario
Comment 18 when will all the entries be shown?
