At present, the sixth Rugby World Cup is taking place, mainly in France. The World Cup began only twenty years ago and since has steadly increased in popularity; this year, twenty teams are competing for the Cup.

In France, lots of designers and artists have begun to create work around the event. For example, the fashion houses "Who's Next", "Première classe" and "Canterbury" invited twenty creators from the worlds of fashion, design and contemporary art to change the look of "Canterbury" rugby jersey and the rugby ball. Some of the resullting works include a plaster ball, a ball covered with stickers, and another designed like a symbol of peace. Some jerseys were painted with hands, whilst others were decorated with roses, grass, spiders...

A competition was also organized by PUMA for eight fashion schools. Students were asked to design a PUMA life-style jersey with a rugby or Samoa theme. Their completed designs were drawn, or painted. The first prize was a trip to Paris or cash, and the other winners had their shirt designs showcased on PUMA's website.( http://www.puma.com/pindex.jsp)
