The winner of this year's Golden Fleece Award was announced on Tuesday evening. Painter Eoin MacLochlainn took the award, worth anything up to 20,000 euro (the supplied information is frustratingly vague). Merit prizes went to Sharon Lindsay Ferguson, Sylvia Hemmingway and Bob Johnston.

MacLochlainn’s current exhibition, Dearcadh, continues at The Paul Kane Gallery, Dublin, until 22 March.

2008 AIB Prize: shortlist announced

AIB Group yesterday announced the names of the four shortlisted artists for the AIB Prize, an annual award for 'artists of promise'. The AIB Prize seeks "to identify Irish visual artists of outstanding potential and to assist them in launching their careers."

This year’s shortlisted artists and their nominating galleries are:

Joy Gerrard - Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown
Eoin McHugh - Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Dublin
Jackie Nickerson - Gallery of Photography, Dublin
Margaret O’Brien - Droichead Arts Centre, Co. Louth

The panel of adjudicators is Aidan Dunne, Gemma Tipton, and Frances Ruane. The winner of the AIB Prize will receive 20,000 euro for the purpose of creating new work for an exhibition and for the publication of an accompanying catalogue. The three runners up will each receive an award of 1,500 euro. The winner will be announced on Monday 19 May.
