Belfast was always the edge of Europe. The Europa Hotel continuously bombed throughout the troubles was always the edge of the edge. Everyone stayed there, from The Clash, to shady black propagandists, hopped-up B-politicians, covert pederasts and paramilitary arms brokers.

Chelsea hotel meets civil twilight hell.

Northern Ireland has been continuously in the news for the past thirty-three years. We know everything about the place…and nothing.

In 1978 I spent a night in the Europa Hotel with Joe Strummer and The Clash.

Joe Strummer died shortly after I made this performance in the Europa. Attendance during the performance included members of my band Ask Mother.

From Belfast, Ask Mother made punk music together from 1977 to 1980.

We hadn’t seen each other or been in touch for 22 years.
